Much has been written in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the internet version of this classic game offer a salvation, or might it never compare to its land based peer?
Bingo has been an familiar game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had undergone a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to change with the enacting of the smoking ban around England and Wales.
Players will no longer be able to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public area will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favored places where people like to smoke.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t deserted this ancient game?
The answer is on the web. People are now realizing that they can participate in bingo from their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and still have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course playing online is unlikely to replace the social portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
