Bingo and Oklahoma: 2 Peas in a Pod
November 1st, 2025 by Jackson

Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That is because the Native bands of Oklahoma have run Bingo sessions for ages. Patrons from many of the neighboring states pile in vans and head over to Oklahoma to play Bingo on the weekends.

The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act followed a precedent setting decree by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. From that time, 23 of the thirty nine Indian bands of Oklahoma have opened gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the gambling rules, and today operate 10 casinos of their own. Bingo was the game on which these casinos were built on. Electronic games like slots weren’t authorized, because they’re thought to contribute to gambling problems more than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma rules has changed to allow for enormous Amerindian gambling gambling halls. You will now discover Indian casinos with slot machine games, video poker and blackjack tables. Craps and roulette are still not legal in the American Indian gambling dens as of yet, although this is just a waiting game. Nobody can determine whether having other casino games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
