A lot has been written in the press recently regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. However will the web version of this traditional game present a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its land based peer?
Bingo is an enduring game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had seen a recent return in popularity with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the enforcement of the smoking ban across UK.
Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public location will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular areas where people like to puff on cigarettes.
The outcome of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they have not abandoned this enduring game?
The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and smoke and still enjoy huge prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course gambling on on the internet can never replace the collective part of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no option.
