Bingo in Oklahoma
May 11th, 2021 by Jackson

Oklahoma has long been analogous with Bingo. That’s due to the fact that the Native bands of Oklahoma have provided Bingo sessions for generations. Patrons from each of the neighboring states pile in autos and visit Oklahoma to bet on Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a landmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year before. Since that instance, twenty three of the thirty nine Native tribes located in Oklahoma have introduced gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the gambling restrictions, and at this time control ten casinos of their very own. Bingo was the game on which the above-mentioned gambling halls were built on. automated games such as slot machine games were not allowed, since they are believed to contribute to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts have altered to allow for large American Indian betting casinos. You will now see American Indian gambling halls with slots, video poker and blackjack tables. Craps and roulette are not yet authorized in the Indian casinos as of yet, but that is only a waiting game. Nobody can determine whether having different casino games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
