Oklahoma has long been analogous with Bingo. That is because the Native tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for many years. Patrons from many of the neighboring states pile in passenger cars and visit Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo on the weekends.
The 1988 IGRA was introduced after a precedent setting decree by The U.S. Supreme Court the year prior. From that instance, 23 of the 39 Indian bands located in Oklahoma have introduced gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma Native band to take advantage of the betting restrictions, and today run 10 gambling halls of their own. Bingo is the game on which these casinos were founded. Electronic games like slot machine games were not permitted, since they’re believed to contribute to gambling problems more than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts has altered to allow for gigantic Native gaming gambling halls. You will now find American Indian casinos with slot machine games, video poker and twenty-one tables. Craps and roulette are still not legal in the Native gambling dens as of yet, although that is only a waiting game. Nobody can say with whether having different games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
