Can the Smoking Ban in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Players On to the Net?
August 11th, 2017 by Jackson

A lot has been reported in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in the UK. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax breaks to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However can the web version of this classic game present a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo has been an classic game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had undergone a recent return in popularity with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the anti smoking law all over United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most popular places where many people enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they haven’t forgotten this familiar game?

The answer is on the web. Gamblers realise that they can participate in bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
